What is condensing heat recovery?
Condensing heat recovery captures thermal energy from an exhaust stream instead of losing it to the air, then reuses that energy elsewhere in the building. Boiler flue gas carries two kinds of heat: sensible heat from its temperature, and latent heat trapped in its water vapour. Cooling the gas below its dew point releases that latent heat too, which is where the word condensing comes from. Most systems only recover the sensible heat and leave the rest behind.

How it works
Flue gas enters the tower at up to 370°C. Water sprayed down the column cools the gas to as low as 41°C, pulling heat out along the way. That heated water is then used for heating water, glycol and air throughout the hospital. This removes the need to send hot water or steam from standard sources, cutting the hospital’s use of natural gas. The diagram shows the tower’s typical temperatures at each point.
